Machine-gunner Cpl. Blake Morales teaches Petty officer 1st Class Feven Bryant how to check the functions of an M2 .50-caliber machine gun aboard amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8) Jan. 2. Morales, 22, serves with Battalion Landing Team 3/1, the ground combat element for the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit. Bryant, 32, is a cryptological collection specialist with the ship. The 11th MEU is currently deployed aboard USS Makin Island, USS New Orleans and USS Pearl Harbor as the U.S. Central Command theater reserve force, also providing support for maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of responsibility.
