Squad leader Sgt. Cyle Nickerson and rifleman Lance Cpl. Nathan S. Zoon practice reloading their rifles on the flight deck of the amphibious transport dock New Orleans here Nov. 25 during weapon drills with the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit. Nickerson is a 26-year-old Onalaska, Wis., native and Zoon is a 20-year-old Baker City, Ore., native, both serve with Company L. The Pendleton-based company is one of three rifle companies with Battalion Landing Team 3/1, the ground combat element for the unit, which embarked USS Makin Island, USS New Orleans and USS Pearl Harbor in San Diego Nov. 14, beginning a seven-month deployment through the Western Pacific and Middle East regions.
