CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. -- Combat engineer Lance Cpl. Jeff R. Ahlers conceals a simulated improvised explosive device during a Combat Logistics Battalion 11 convoy exercise here Sept. 6. The battalion provides logistics and services to the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit. The unit's team from 1st Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company embedded in the convoy and pilots from the unit's aviation combat element, Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 268 (Reinforced), flew helicopters to provide close air support to the battalion. Ahlers, 29, is a Petaluma, Calif., native.
