Col. Michael R. Hudson, left, commanding officer of the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit, and Navy Capt. Humberto L. Quintanilla II, commander of Amphibious Squadron 5, begin an eight-mile hike at the 43 Training Area here Sept. 23. The squadron and the 11th MEU, when embarked on naval shipping in the future, will form the Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group.
