Lance Cpl. Richard E. Stricklin, 24, from Kennedale, Texas, looks through his compass to determine where to position his machine gun as his platoon places themselves in a defensive position Aug. 18. The Marines of Company G, Battalion Landing Team 2/4, held their position along the beaches of Camp Pendleton while waiting to conduct a mechanized night raid, their final training exercise before deploying with the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit.
