Sgt. Michael Mullane, from Lakewood, Colo., briefs his machine gun section aboard USS Bonhomme Richard before they board helicopters to conduct a long-range heliborne raid at U.S. Army Yuma Proving Ground, Ariz., Aug. 15. Mullane and other Magnificent Bastards of Battalion Landing Team 2/4 conducted the raid during the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit’s certification exercise, the last at-sea training before the MEU deploys. Mullane is a machine gun section leader in Company E.
