U.S. 5TH FLEET AREA OF OPERATIONS (Dec. 8, 2016) U.S. Marines with Company C, Battalion Landing Team 1st Bn., 4th Marines, 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), approach the shore aboard a Landing Craft Utility (LCU) to participate in Exercise Alligator Dagger, Dec. 8. The LCU can carry approximately 350 Marines or 170 tons of cargo or vehicles from ship to shore. Exercise Alligator Dagger, a U.S. 5th Fleet exercise, is a sustainment exercise enabling Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group and 11th MEU to rehearse complex amphibious operations that keep their skills ready for crisis response and contingency operations throughout the Central Command area of responsibility.
