GULF OF ADEN (Dec. 6, 2016) A landing craft air cushion (LCAC) debarks from the stern gate of the USS Somerset (LPD 25) caring U.S. Marines and their light armored vehicles during an amphibious assault rehearsal as part of exercise Alligator Dagger, Dec. 6, 2016. The LCAC is one means for an amphibious ready group and a Marine expeditionary unit to conduct logistical movements, carrying troops, vehicles, and equipment from ship to shore. The Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group and the 11th MEU is operating in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of responsibility in support of maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts to ensure the free flow of commerce, freedom of navigation and regional security.
