U.S. Marine Sgt. Devon M. Palafox, right, an aviation ordnance noncommissioned officer in charge (NCOIC) and Reseda, California native, and Lance Cpl. Kristian A. Gomez, an aviation ordnance and Boise, Idaho native, both with Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 163 (Reinforced), 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), clean a GAU-21 .50 caliber weapons system mounted on a CH-53E Super Stallion as part of scheduled preventive maintenance on the flight deck of the amphibious transport dock ship USS San Diego (LPD 22), Oct. 17. Marines from the 11th MEU are deployed with the San Diego and the Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group as a flexible, adaptable and persistent force in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of responsibility.
