Marines and sailors aboard the USS San Diego gather on the focsle of the USS San Diego to honor the victims of the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, and those who have since served in defense of the nation . The 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit and Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group are deployed to the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations as a sea-based, expeditionary crisis response force capable of conducting amphibious missions across the full range of military operations.
