A sailor aboard the USNS Charles Drew prepares to connect a hoisting sling to an SA-330J Puma helicopter during a vertical replenishment mission for the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit's WestPac 14-2 deployment, Sep. 5, 2014. Supplies, including mail and food, are regularly delivered to the Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group through U.S. Navy supply ships in the local area. The 11th MEU and Makin Island ARG are deployed to the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations as a sea-based, expeditionary crisis response force capable of conducting amphibious missions across the full range of military operations.
