A rigid inflatable boat (RIB), carrying Marines with the Force Reconnaissance Detachment, 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit, and sailors with Assault Craft Unit 5, Amphibious Squadron 5, approaches the cargo vessel ATLS as part of a visit board search and seizure conducted during Certification Exercise (CERTEX) off the coast of Southern California, June 16, 2014. The 11th MEU and Amphibious Squadron 5 team conducts CERTEX to hone mission-essential tasks, execute specified MEU and Amphibious Ready Group operations, and certify the foundation of a cohesive warfighting team for exercises and operations they may encounter in their upcoming deployment.
