A Marine with the Force Reconnaissance Detachment, 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit, fires his M4 carbine during a close quarters tactics range on the flight deck of the USS San Diego as part of Certification Exercise (CERTEX), off the coast of Southern California, June 11, 2014. The 11th MEU and Amphibious Squadron 5 team conduct CERTEX to hone mission-essential tasks, execute specified MEU and Amphibious Ready Group operations, and certify the foundation of a cohesive warfighting team for exercises and operations they may encounter in their upcoming deployment.
