Marines with the mortars section of Echo Company, Battalion Landing Team 2nd Battalion, 1st Marines (BLT 2/1), 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit, employ the M224A1 60mm mortar system during a company-sized mechanized assault training exercise as part of Composite Training Unit Exercise (COMPTUEX) aboard Camp Pendleton, Calif., May 10. COMPTUEX provides the 11th MEU, along with the Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group, the opportunity to conduct command and control of amphibious operations from the sea.
