Marines with 2nd Battalion, 1st Marines (Reinforced), the ground combat element of the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit, prepare to board a CH-53E Super Stallion with Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 163 (Reinforced) during a Tactical Recovery of Aircraft and Personnel training operation aboard Camp Pendleton, Calif., Mar. 12. After the Super Stallion inserted them into the training area, the Marines searched for a simulated downed pilot with limited mobility, provided first aid, and quickly evacuated him and departed by the aircraft. During their upcoming deployment this summer with the 11th MEU, 2/1 Marines will need to be proficient in recuperating personnel and/or aircraft in potentially hostile situations.
