A CH-53E Super Stallion with Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 163 (Reinforced) prepares to land and deploy Marines with 2nd Battalion, 1st Marines (Reinforced), the ground combat element of the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit, during a Tactical Recovery of Aircraft and Personnel training operation aboard Camp Pendleton, Calif., March 12. Once on the ground, the Marines searched for a simulated downed pilot with limited mobility, provided first aid, and quickly evacuated him and departed by the aircraft. During their upcoming deployment this summer with the 11th MEU, 2/1 Marines will need to be proficient in recuperating personnel and/or aircraft in potentially hostile situations.
