Sgt. Maj. Scott T. Pile, outgoing sergeant major of the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit, hands over a noncommissioned officer sword to Col. Matthew G. Trollinger, commanding officer of the 11th MEU, during a relief and appointment ceremony May 16 at the 21 Area parade deck on Camp Pendleton, Calif. The emblematic passing of the sword represents the passing of responsibility from one sergeant major to another. During the ceremony Sgt. Maj. Troy E. Black was welcomed to his new post as the 11th MEU sergeant major. Pile joined the 11th MEU in May 2010 and will assume the duties as sergeant major of Training and Education Command, Quantico, Va.
