ABOARD USS TARAWA -- Jason C. Henry, operations chief, CLB-11, and anchorman for Marine Team One comes from behind to win the final race and give Marines from the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit 1st Place during the Tarawa Ramp Relays here. The teams are composed of members from the MEU’s Command Element, Battalion Landing Team 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, Combat Logistics Battalion 11, the MEU’s ground combat and combat logistics elements. They are competing against other Navy work sections aboard the ship.
The relay race is one of several events in the Captain’s Cup, an athletic competition that was created to foster friendly competition and camaraderie between the Sailors and Marines from the Tarawa Expeditionary Strike Group. The Expeditionary Strike Group, composed of the 11th MEU, USS Tarawa, USS Cleveland, USS Germantown and other ships, are halfway through a seven-month deployment throughout the Western Pacific and Arabian Gulf region.
