Two MV-22 Ospreys from Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadrons 166 and 161 -- Sea Elk and Greyhawks respectively -- land aboard USS Makin Island here March 1, becoming the first of their kind to grace the ship. The landings came during Exercise Iron Fist, a bilateral training exercise meant to enhance amphibious capabilities and increase military interoperability between the Japanese Ground Self-Defense Force and the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps team. The 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit and several other Southern California-based Marine units participated.
