Colonel Thomas M. Siverts
11th Marine Expeditionary Unit

Colonel Tom Siverts is a native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in August 1989. He achieved a commission as a Second Lieutenant through the Marine Corps Enlisted Commissioning Education Program following his graduation from the University of Virginia in May 1999.    

Colonel Siverts has held positions of command that include Weapons Platoon Commander, 2d Battalion, 8th Marines; 81mm Mortar Platoon Commander, 2d Battalion, 8th Marines; Company Commander, 3d Fleet Antiterrorism Security Team Company; Company Commander, Company L, 3d Battalion, 8th Marines; Weapons Company Commander, 3d Battalion, 8th Marines; and Commanding Officer, Battalion Landing Team 2/8.

Colonel Siverts’ staff assignments include tours as the Executive Officer, Marine Corps Detachment, Fort Benning, GA; Training Officer, J-7, U.S. Forces-Afghanistan; Executive Officer, 1st Battalion, 9th Marines; Deputy Branch Head, Capabilities Analysis Branch, Marine Corps Combat Development Command; and Chief of Staff/Operations Officer, Task Force 61/2.

Colonel Siverts has deployed in support of Operations DESERT SHIELD, DESERT STORM, IRAQI FREEDOM, and ENDURING FREEDOM. His other operational deployments include serving with Battalion Landing Team (BLT) 2/8, 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU); BLT 3/8, 22d MEU; BLT 2/8, 26th MEU, and Task Force 61/2.

Colonel Siverts holds a BA in Economics, an MS in Computer Science, and an MA in National Security and Strategic Studies. His formal military education includes The Basic School, Infantry Officer’s Course, the Maneuver Captain’s Career Course, and the Weapons and Tactics Instructor Course.
