Sergeant Major Charles N. Bell Sergeant Major, 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit

Sergeant Major (SgtMaj) Bell enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1995 and reported to boot camp at MCRD, San Diego.  In 1995 he transferred to Marine Combat Training, Camp Pendleton, California.  Upon completion he was reassigned to Assault Amphibian Schools Battalion where he obtained the Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) of Assault Amphibious Crewman or 1833.

Upon completion of the school he was assigned to Third Assault Amphibian Battalion, Fox Company where he deployed to Okinawa serving as a crew chief and was promoted to the rank of Corporal. In 1998 he re-enlisted to serve as an MOS instructor at Assault Amphibious Schools Battalion and was promoted to the rank of Sergeant.  In 2001 he was reassigned Third Assault Amphibian Battalion, Echo Company where he deployed in support of the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit attached to Third Battalion First Marines and was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant. When his unit returned, they were reattached to Second Battalion Fifth Marines deploying to Operation Iraqi Freedom. After returning from OIF he was transferred to Charlie Company and deployed to Okinawa as a Section Leader. 

In 2005 he re-enlisted and reported to MCRD Parris Island to Drill instructor school as a student and obtained the MOS of 8511 Drill Instructor and was selected to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant. He reported to Third Recruit Training Battalion, Kilo Company, where he served as a Drill Instructor, Senior Drill Instructor, and Series Gunnery Sergeant.  He was then selected to go to Drill Instructor School as an instructor. After several cycles he was selected to go back to Third Recruit Training Battalion where he served as a Company First Sergeant (1stSgt) for Quebec Company and was selected to the rank of 1stSgt. In 2009 he received orders to Third Battalion, Sixth Marines where he served as India and Weapons Company 1stSgt. He deployed in 2009 to Operation Enduring Freedom in support of operation Moshtarak and then again in 2010 to the same location. 

In 2012 he received orders to School of Infantry where he served as a company 1stSgt with Echo Company, Infantry Training Battalion and Headquarters and Instructor group. Selected to his current rank he served as the Battalion Sergeant Major for Infantry Training Battalion, Advanced Infantry training Battalion, Squadron Sergeant Major for Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 462 and is currently the Sergeant Major for the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit. 

SgtMaj Bell’s personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal with gold Star, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with one gold star, one distinguishing device and two Combat Action Ribbons.
